Abzan Amalia is a combo deck that creates a 20/20 or bigger Amalia using away to start the chain of either gaining life or exploiring to have Wildgrowth Walker and Amalia Benavides Aguirre. To make the deck the most consistent we run cards like Chord of Calling, Collected Company, and recursion spells to assemble the combo. The back strategy of the deck is to swarm the board with cheap creatures that sort of work together.
ORIGINAL DECK LIST
MAIN DECK
Creature Breakdown
Selfless Savior: This little 1/1 protects our Amalia, preferrably the turn we combo off.
Lunarch Veteran & Prosperous Innkeeper: Both of this cheap creatures provide away to gain 1 life to start the loop with Wildgrowth Walker and Amalia.
Cenote Scout & Sentinel of the Nameless City: Both of these creatures provide away to explore that syngeries with Wildgrowth Walker. So we can make it big enough to have a backup plan, while also providing away to start the combo.
Deep-Cavern Bat: A little two drop that can disrupt our opponent's hand, while also having lifelink to start the loop after damage is dealt.
Dina, Soul Steeper: This key piece allows us to not be at risk of causing a draw. So with every loop with Walker and Amalia we drain the opponent for 1.
Extraction Specialist: This piece has lifelink to start the loop even through enter the battlefield hate. Plus it adds the bonus that it can reanimate either one of the combo pieces.
Honest Rutstein: This creature is a nice Chord tutor target that lets us cast our combo pieces cheaper and to return one to the hand.
Ruthless Lawbringer: This is a catch all removal spell that we can find off a collected company or a chord of calling.
Wildgrowth Walker: This is apart of the core of the deck. It gain lifes every time we explore and gets a little bigger, while interacts with Amalia. It can often gain us enough life against aggro decks, while also providing a good blocker and attacker.
Amalia Benavides Aguirre: This is the other critical part of the combo. Whenever you gain life, you get to explore. This can either gain us so much life that we can win by Aetherflux Reservoir or just by attacking with her on turn 3.
Noncreature Breakdown
Lively Dirge: This card allows us to reanimate 2 creatures that mana value add up to four or less. It just so happens that our combo pieces are both 2 mana value. This card also allows us to through either combo piece into the yard before we reanimate.
Pillage the Bog: This allows us to dig very deep to find either combo piece or a Chord or Company to find our pieces.
Return to the Ranks: This allows us to reanimate all of the combo pieces we need to win the game. Since our deck is top of the meta, decks come prepared to remove our threats once they hit the board.
Chord of Calling: This card allows us to use our cheap creatures to pay for the cost to either grab Walker, Amalia, or an Explore card to start the loop. Also makes our deck turn into as toolboxy deck with many silver bullets.
Collected Company: Looks at the top seven to find any pieces of the combo we might need.
Aetherflux Reservoir: Normally when we are comboing off, we want to pitch our top cards until we find this card to win the game we untap and draw our next card. We can piece 50 life to deal 50 damage to our opponent.
ADJUSTED DECK LIST
MAIN DECK
Creature Adjustments
Voice of Resurgence: I want to move this to the main board over Honest Rutstein. I didn't think it was worth having an card that is similar to Extraction Specialist. Moving Voice to the mainboard allows us to have a Knight of Dusk's Shadow for the mirror.
Skyclave Apparition: This card feels like an improved version of Ruthless Lawbringer. I prefer to have one in the mainboard and one in the side.
Noncreature Adjustments
No changes needed.
Sideboard Breakdown
Fatal Push: It is a cheap removal spell that is good verse the mirror or against aggro.
Haywire Mite: A tutorable target that can exile a problematic artifact or enchantment.
Hallowed Moonlight: This spell helps against Creativity, Sorin, and other targets but also replaces itself.
Thoughtseize: Away to disrupt our opponent's combo or to remove counters or removal spells.
Deep-Cavern Bat: Additional hand disruption that allows us to trigger amalia's loop.
High Noon: Against combo decks or phoenix, we can bring this in to stop our opponent from casting multiple spells in any given turn.
Knight of Dusk's Shadow: Is a tutorable target that can help us win against the mirror or versus angels.
Scavenging Ooze: Tutorable graveyard hate to help us against Phoenix or Greasefang
Liliana of the Veil: A planeswalker that allows us to fight against the control matchup.
Reidane, God of the Worthy: Helps stop Mayhem devil or pushes off combo decks that cast a lot of high mana value spells.
Sin Collector: Additional tutor target that acts as hand disruption
Skyclave Apparition: Additional removal that hits almost anything problematic in the format.
